JOEL GOLEBURN

A life of building, reinvention, and transformation.

01 — An Unplanned Life

An Unplanned Life

I never had much of a plan. I became a chiropractor, walked away from it, learned languages, lived around the world, went into business, discovered that I loved transforming buildings, and eventually built a life in Colombia. Looking back, the path seems less random than it felt while I was living it.

02 — Origins

The Story

I grew up on Long Island in a complicated home, surrounded by people I loved and circumstances I often wanted to escape. Friends, sports, grandparents, travel, work and an almost compulsive curiosity kept pulling me forward.

Around the World

Italy was supposed to be an adventure. Instead, it changed the direction of my life. Italian led to Hebrew, Hebrew to Japanese, and languages became my passport into other cultures. Italy, Israel, Japan, Hawaii and eventually Colombia each became home for a while—and each changed me.

04 — Making

Things I’ve Built

Eventually I discovered that what I loved most was transformation. I started with buildings—old warehouses, neglected spaces, properties other people couldn’t quite see. Over time that instinct expanded into real estate, hospitality and businesses. I like taking something that isn’t working and imagining what it could become.
